“Your time is the measurement of your life, and how you spend your time is how you spend your life.”
That is as trite as it sounds, but as true as it can be.
Time is such a precious commodity. I have, over the past few years, learnt to be more intentional with the time that I have. It is very necessary to guard one’s time as one ages and as one’s responsibilities pile. Time is the precious commodity we spend on the things and the people we love.
It is very true as well that what we have the time for is what we have the heart for. The Book of books was spot on about “where your treasure is, there your heart will be”.
Indeed, our pleasure is the measure of our treasure. We simply love to spend time on the things we love. We simply love to spend time on the people we treasure.
In this hectic end-of-year season, I have very often find myself reflecting on the subjects of “stewarding time” and “loving people” whenever I have my reflection and devotion. In those quiet pockets of reflection time, I would ‘take stock’ of the time I spent, and it always brought a smile to think about how my day had went.
The time I spent playing Saboteurs with the precious kids from church; the time I spent during the recent Deepavali gathering with my polytechnic classmates and church brothers; the time I spent with my friends of more than a decade over a very short lunch gathering; the time I spent at Boys’ Brigade’s headquarter for a full-day course (and a very sumptuous lunch), and the time I spent daily as an educator and business owner. These are people and endeavors that are worth my time. These are people and endeavors that are worth my life.
I am numbering each day with a grateful heart.
